State Mask Mandate and Schools – District Information

Dear Granite District Parents and Families,

We’ve heard from a number of you who are concerned about rumors you’re hearing that masks will no longer be worn at school. As I’m sure you are aware, the law that was passed by the legislature specifically left the school mask wearing requirement in place. Consequently, you need have no safety concerns within Granite District. Our students and employees will continue to wear masks in school and at school activities through the end of the school year in harmony with the law and state and local health department requirements. The link for that order is here – https://coronavirus-download.utah.gov/Health/UPHO-2021-2-Updated-School-Face-Mask-Order.pdf

As has been the case throughout this year, children who do not have a mask will be provided one and those families who choose to not wear masks will be provided a distance education.

Most of our employees have received COVID immunizations and as we know, these immunizations are proven to prevent symptoms. The CDC continues to study whether immunizations prevent catching, carrying or passing the virus. Consequently, we encourage everyone to keep wearing masks even away from school when in close contact with people who have not been immunized.

Sincerely,

Granite School District

PTSA Section

We are heading into the end of the year and the Skyline PTSA needs YOU!

It has been a pleasure to be the PTSA president here at Skyline for the last 2 years.  As we approach the end of the 2020-2021 school year, we are in desperate need of new faces and friends!! We need a new president, and other PTSA positions filled for next year’s PTSA board.  If you’ve ever wanted to be a part of the PTA, or have been in the past, we could use your support! It’s fun, informative and doesn’t really take all that much time! You get to be in the know of Skyline happenings and you get to give back to

the community and great school that is a Skyline High!

Please contact me, Ashli Storheim, if you’d like to be involved and a member of Skyline PTSA!!

Thank you!!

Seal of Biliteracy Testing

Seniors interested in applying for the Utah Seal of Biliteracy can find the requirements, testing information, application, and any other information on the World Language page of the Granite School District website.  Testing should be completed by the second week of April in order to receive the results in time for graduation.  If you have any questions, please contact your school counselor.

Summer Driver Education

The signup for summer Skyline Driver Education is now available in the Main Office.  The class will be held from June 7 to June 30 from 10am to 12pm or from 12pm to 2pm.  The $140 fee will need to be paid at the time of registration.  Students must have their learner’s permit before the class begins.  For more information or to sign up, please contact the Skyline Main Office at 385-646-5420.

Important AP Exam Update

Skyline will conduct all AP exams May 3-17 in-person with the paper/pencil format.  Subsequent paper exams for late testing will be held at Skyline.  All digital exams will be administered at home.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, College Board (the entity that oversees Advanced Placement – AP) will be offering three separate AP test administrations (see dates below) across the country with two different exam formats (paper/pencil and digital). The second and third administrations are meant to address scheduling conflicts or pandemic related issues. Skyline is only offering test administration for paper/pencil exams across the three administrations, the majority of which will be held during Administration #1.  College Board is offering students the opportunity for digital exams during the second and third administrations.  However, all digital exams will be administered at home and technical support will not be available (Skyline will not be administering any digital exams).

All Skyline students who have ordered an exam will be scheduled for a paper/pencil exam during the first test administration period (May 3-17), unless they have already notified the AP Coordinator with a request for a late test.  If you have a student who needs to request a late test, a test during the second or third administrations, or a digital test for any reason, please contact Kati at kjfadenrecht@graniteschools.org.  Late and digital testing must be requested through the AP Coordinator

Please note that non-AP approved reasons for late and digital testing may result in a $40 late fee per student per test.  College Board has established the criteria and rules by which requests are approved.

Please see the complete AP Schedule for 2021 at https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/exam-calendar#administration1.

Administration 1: May 3 – May 17, 2021 — All paper/pencil tests, administered at Skyline.

Administration 2:  May 18 – 28, 2021 — Half of the subjects are paper/pencil tests administered at Skyline; the other half are digital tests administered at home.

Administration 3:  June 1 – June 11, 2021 — Few subjects are paper/pencil tests administered at Skyline; the majority are digital tests administered at home.

Community of Caring

In March we held a medical device drive to benefit www.ProjectEmbrace.org. Our goal was to gather 200 medical devices which included wheel chairs, walkers, shower stools, commodes, crutches, etc. With the help of Skyline students and the surrounding community we were able to reach our goal! Thank you to everyone who donated!

We are hosting our 3rd blood drive this school year on Wednesday April 21st, 8am-1pm in the auxiliary gym. Please use the link to sign up and donate!
