Class Changes

Parents and Students, due to an adjusted enrollment, we have had to make some adjustments to the number of class sections we are offering beginning 2nd quarter. This will require schedule changes for students who were in the sections that we have removed from the master schedule.

Counselors are working hard to make the class adjustments today and tomorrow. If your child’s schedule is affected, you will receive an email from the counselor with a copy of the new class schedule.

Regarding regular student request for class changes for 2nd quarter, please read the information in the Counseling Center section below.

AP EXAMS

The deadline to order AP Exams without the $40/exam late fee is Friday, October 30th. Exam fees do NOT need to be paid by this date; the exam just needs to be ordered.

Most Skyline students have already joined their AP class at school and have their exam ordered. But if your student has not, please remind them to do this before October 30th. You can find student instructions for joining an AP class HERE (https://apcentral.collegeboard.org/pdf/joining-your-ap-class-section-students.pdf ) Please note that once a student “joins” their AP class through their College Board account, their exam is automatically ordered.

Students taking AP US Government during second semester will join their class and order their exam in January without a late fee. Please direct questions about AP exams to Ms. Johansen (djohansen@graniteschools.org).

Student Clubs at Skyline High

If you are interested in starting a club, there are forms available in the front office.  If you are continuing a club from last year, you need to fill out a new application for a Non-Curriculum Club and a Curriculum Club Continuation form for a Curriculum Club.  Watch the links – Deadline to apply is October 30th.

Second Quarter Schedule Changes

Second quarter schedule changes will be made October 26 through October 30.  Students can request a schedule change beginning Monday, October 26.  In-person and hybrid students can walk into the Counseling Center to discuss changes with their counselor Monday and Tuesday.  Students will be given a schedule change permission form that must be signed by teachers and parents prior to making changes.   Distance learning students can email their counselor to discuss their request.   Changes might be subject to a $5 fee.  No changes are guaranteed.

Junior College and Career Readiness Meetings

Dear Juniors and Parents: It is time for your annual College and Career Readiness Meeting (CCR).  We will review graduation requirements, give information about the ACT and preparation for college applications, and talk about your future goals.   Junior CCRs will begin November 9 and go through December.  To schedule an appointment time, please call the Counseling Center at 385-646-5421 between the hours of 7:00 am and 1:00 pm.  Appointments can be held in-person, by phone, or virtually.  Be sure to schedule your appointment with the counselor that corresponds with your student’s last name or with the IB counselor if they are participating in that program.  Please check with your student for the best time in their schedule before making an appointment.

We encourage and highly recommend parent involvement in the CCR process.  If you are unable to schedule an appointment during the times listed, we will meet with your student to ensure they have the critical information they need for graduation.  We look forward to meeting with you and your student!

Seniors

If any of you need help with your Parchment Account or College Applications, please come to the Career Center.  We have a College Access Advisor this year, Nicole Alley.

UCAW – Utah College Application Week      October 26-30, 2020

UCAW starts next week.  We are so excited to help your students start or complete their college application.  We will be having a door decorating contest here at school during their 2A class with a prize for the winning door.

Any student who indicated they would like help should have received their appointment date and time.  We will also send a note the day of their appointment to remind the student to come down. Sometimes that note may come the day before.  If you are a distance learner,  we have scheduled times for  your appointments from 2:00 – 3:00 on Monday thru Thursday and all day Friday.  We will run these sessions on Zoom.  We will email you with all of that information.  If a distance learner would like to do your appointment in person, this can also be handled at the same time we are scheduling their virtual appointment.  Please let us know if you would rather come in than do a zoom meeting.

If you have not received an appointment and you would like one, please contact the Career Center (385-646-5423 or kmanning@graniteschools.org) and we would be happy to schedule an appointment for you. We would love to help make the college application process a little easier for you!

FAFSA  If you are needing help completing your FAFSA application, come to the Career Center at this time to get help from counselors and college advisors.

National ACT

The next National ACT offered at Skyline will be December 12, 2020.
